Caroline's Bio

Caroline has experience working with students in college-level physics, including non-majors. Her breadth of knowledge of general physics (kinematics, energy conservation, momentum, rotation) and associated math concepts (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus) gives her an edge when it comes to building strong foundations.

She earned a BA in combined physics and astronomy from Whitman College in 2025, where she worked as a teaching assistant. Having taught labs for physics courses (Applications in Life Sciences and the Physics of Sound and Music) allows her to show students how concepts in physics can be applied to other subjects like biology and music. In addition to tutoring, she’s excited to apply to graduate schools to study atmospheric science or physics.

“My proudest moment was watching students check their calculated result with the experimental one. It was fun to see them get excited when they were right, and it showed me that they had done their calculations correctly and also understood the concepts that brought them there,” she recalls.

Caroline describes her teaching style as “interactive.” Practice is key, and she employs Socratic questioning to test her students’ skills. “By doing this, I learn how to meet the individual's needs and can teach concepts in a way that builds off what they understand,” she notes. Ultimately, she aims to foster a lifelong love of learning, especially for underrepresented students in STEM fields.

Her research at Whitman earned her the Louis B. Perry Scholar Summer Research Award in 2023. In college, she played club tennis and was a violinist for the Whitman Orchestra. Additionally, she was president of the Gender Minorities in STEM Club.

Outside of work, she enjoys running, hiking, playing music, and crocheting. Fun fact: her undergraduate research project allowed her to work with lasers to study violas. “I was super passionate about this project because I got to study a musical instrument while getting hands-on experience with optics.”
