PrepNow Tutor - Khurram P.
Always positive in his interactions with students, Khurram is hardworking and willing to learn to improve himself. He attended New York University, where he earned his bachelor's in engineering technology. After graduation, Khurram spent seven years working as a contractor for NASA doing quality assurance work. From there, he became a project coordinator for an oil company. Khurram then transitioned to teaching. He currently works as a high school mathematics teacher.
Teaching is a calling for Khurram. His aunt first motivated him to become a teacher. Then, helping his own children further inspired him. He genuinely loves working with students and finding ways to get them excited about learning. Khurram is quite proud when his students are able to connect with and understand the material as it helps them build confidence. Once his students understand a difficult concept, it helps them realize that success is possible.
“I feel that working with my students is about developing confidence and problem-solving skills,” Khurram explains. He employs a blend of direct and student-led teaching styles. “I do my best to encourage students to think through problems rather than simply giving them the answer.” He will also use different teaching methods if a student is not comfortable or connecting with the current one. “Students are more willing to ask questions, make mistakes, and challenge themselves when they feel supported rather than judged.”
As a high school student, Khurram was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the science club, where he participated in science fairs. He is a basketball and soccer fan. Khurram loves cooking and trying new recipes—though he always uses the same recipe to make tea for his family. He enjoys spending time with his family, watching Marvel movies, and working on his car.
