“I prefer to listen to people talk about themselves,” says educator Lidio. He’s an easy-going person who enjoys interacting with people. Lidio’s first bachelor’s is from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn where he studied electrical engineering. He also has an MBA in industrial management from Inter-American University. After working as a communications engineer, a network engineer, and a systems analyst, Lidio returned to school. He has a bachelor’s in physics from Florida Atlantic University and is currently enrolled in their physics graduate program.
Lidio’s first teaching job was in 2010 at a local university where he tutored calculus, physics, and algebra. He then became an adjunct instructor teaching physics, earth science, astronomy, and algebra. He continued tutoring STEM subjects including statistics and differential equations. He also established two tutoring programs in astronomy and engineering that recruited and trained tutors. Lidio currently is an adjunct teaching physics and astronomy.
“I enjoy helping students to see math not as complicated as they thought,” Lidio says. In fact, one of his favorite teaching memories is an algebra class where the students collectively realized how easy it was to factor trinomials. Lidio’s approach to teaching is to demonstrate how a type of problem is solved before asking the student to work out another problem on their own. This builds the student’s confidence in their own ability. “My philosophy is to learn the process to solving a problem and the answer will appear to you,” he explains.
Lidio claims he was not athletic in high school or college. Despite this claim, he holds the equivalent of a black belt in Japanese swordsmanship. In his free time, he likes to play flight simulators and build 3D puzzles. He’s also a movie buff with a particular interest in historical and science-fiction movies.
