PrepNow Tutor - Joshua D.
Joshua is an outgoing tutor who is passionate about math and science. He specializes in algebra, calculus, statistics, and all manner of physics at the college level.
Joshua graduated from Clemson University with a BS in physics and holds minors in mathematical science and business administration. He earned several accolades as an undergraduate, including graduating with departmental and general honors; he was also on the President's List for multiple semesters. Since graduating, he has been working with a physics professor at Clemson, developing code to simulate binary black holes.
Joshua started tutoring in high school, hosting peer learning groups. "In college, I started to offer my tutoring services because I enjoy helping others learn difficult content," he says. Joshua's proudest moment as a tutor was when he helped a student boost a physics test score from a failing grade to an A.
"My tutoring style is very patient, interactive, and focused on guiding students to discover solutions for themselves," says Joshua. He believes that the most important thing in learning is having at least some form of interest in the subject; thus, he works hard to cultivate student interest in physics. "Students learn best when they engage with the material, so I use questions, examples, and real-world applications to make concepts clearer and more meaningful," he adds.
In high school, Joshua played soccer and golf at the varsity level. He was an AP Scholar with Distinction, as well as a Small Town Rural Scholar. In college, he played men's club volleyball.
Some of Joshua's hobbies outside of work include going to the gym, doing puzzles, and playing volleyball. He is also interested in Formula 1 racing, Star Wars, and travel—he recently visited Japan for the first time. "It was an amazing trip and I love to talk about it!"
