PrepNow Tutor - Christina R.
An educator for over fifteen years, Christina is a kind and creative tutor who loves teaching. She holds a BS in communications from the University of Texas at Austin and an MEd from the University of St. Thomas, Houston. In college, Christina received the Senior Fellows Award for her honors courses. Since 2006, Christina has taught Pre-K, kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. She currently works as an elementary school teacher and an SAT and ACT prep tutor.
Christina first started tutoring as a college student, mentoring students at low-income schools, and her expertise has continued to grow ever since. She started tutoring test prep specifically during a five-year hiatus from teaching. “I know that many of my students met the score goals they set out to achieve,” Christina says. “I loved hearing from them after their final results and when they followed up with me to share their college acceptance stories!”
Christina describes her teaching and tutoring style as high-energy and engaging. She connects with her students and keeps their interests and personalities in mind when constructing her lessons. “I really try to show a positive attitude because I feel like the energy/attitude I bring to the session will be reflected by the student,” she explains. “If I show them I am putting my all into it, my hope is that they will do the same, and this usually works!” Christina believes that education helps make the world a better place. “I come from a background where education is highly valued and I like to reflect those values with the pride I take in my work,” she says.
As a student, Christina participated in soccer and journalism. She has been a language arts team leader and a math team leader. Christina loves listening to music, reading books, watching movies, and spending time with her family. She is left-handed but right-footed in soccer. “With my fun and go get'em attitude, I make learning enjoyable,” Christina says.
