Patient and passionate, Michelle has tutored ESL online and in person since 2017. She has experience tutoring SAT, English, math, reading, and writing to students—including adults—of various backgrounds.
She earned a BBA in accounting and an MEd in teacher leadership with a specialization in English as a Second Language. After graduating, she spent 14 years crunching numbers and developing corporate training programs as an investment accountant before returning to the field of education. “I always enjoyed teaching, and I thought I would become a math teacher until I volunteered as an English as a Second Language teacher one summer. It endeared me to the language needs within the community,” she recalls.
Throughout high school and college, she tutored students in math and reading. “I love creating learning techniques to help students realize their own abilities,” she says. including adults in English as a second language.
For Michelle, patience is paramount. “I inspire and encourage students to have confidence in their ability to learn and understand new ideas and concepts,” she says. With a mind for process over product, she is quick to assess where students might get stuck and find creative ways to fill those gaps. She firmly believes “everyone has the ability to learn when they are taught with a simple and clear explanation,” and puts a lot of effort into presenting information in myriad ways to ensure deeper learning. Ultimately, she wants her students to develop an authentic passion for learning.
In her free time, she enjoys cycling, Pilates, and hiking. To stay inspired and open her mind, she looks to art, theatre, and literature studies.
