Focused, patient, and enthusiastic, Amy prides herself on her propensity to positively engage with those around her, even under stressful situations. “I am passionate about helping my students reach their goals,” Amy says. Amy received her BA in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Since graduating, she has worked in youth programming, ranging from overnight summer camps to nonprofit educational enrichment. She is currently a program manager at a youth development nonprofit organization.
Amy started teaching after working at an overnight summer camp, where she discovered her love for facilitating programming for youth. “After that summer was over, I looked for full-time employment with organizations that would allow me the opportunity to develop and facilitate a curriculum that was fun and engaging for students,” Amy reflects. “My proudest moment as a mentor so far was when one of my more reserved and difficult-to-please after-school students chose to celebrate me for an assignment for Women’s History Month. I still have the paper she wrote listing me as one of her female heroes.” Amy has experience not only mentoring students from elementary school through high school but also developing curricula covering media literacy, financial literacy, elementary engineering, elementary cosmetic chemistry, and more.
“I would describe my tutoring style as engaging and highly adaptive to meet the needs of the class or individual,” Amy says. “I always walk into a lesson prepared to facilitate it as planned, but am flexible and can pivot in the moment to better engage students or better help their specific needs.” Amy’s vast experience working with students in educational settings, paired with her patience and commitment to excellence, makes her a dynamic test prep tutor. “Having the opportunity to be a part of and positively impact my students' testing journey is incredibly rewarding,” she says. “I remember the stress of test prep and look forward to being a resource for students' success!”
As a young student, Amy played basketball for seven years, stopping after her freshman year of high school to pursue her interest in theater arts (performing and technical). She made the dean’s list during her time in college and graduated with honors. Outside of work, she enjoys staying physically active by going on walks and doing yoga and Pilates. Amy loves to read, craft, cook, bake, and watch movies. “My favorite book series is The Hunger Games!”
