PrepNow Tutor - Suzanne H.
Suzanne has several years of experience working with students in ELA, reading, and writing. She earned a BA in literature and a BA in political science from the University of North Texas. Since graduating, she has pursued teaching certification in 7-12th-grade ELA and reading through the University of Texas at Arlington, all while substitute teaching across several districts. “I am an aspiring educator seeking to share my love for English literature and argumentative writing with students,” she shares. She’s excited to be a full-time, certified teacher by 2027!
Her educational journey began while tutoring as an AVID tutor with the Mansfield Independent School District in Texas. “As a former AVID student, I was proud to step into the role of a tutor because it meant I could facilitate other students in reaching that ‘lightbulb’ moment where a difficult concept clicks,” she shares. Having struggled with math concepts as a student herself, she wants to pay it forward to younger generations.
For Suzanne, the Socratic method is key. “I enter every tutoring situation understanding that the student brings some prior knowledge to the table,” she says. “I feel like my role is to facilitate them applying their prior knowledge through leading questions that guide them in solving their own questions.” Through teamwork, guided questioning, and deep thought, she aims to promote independence and confidence in her students.
She’s proud to share that she completed an Honors College Contract, which involved an independent research project—she chose to research the American education system. Suzanne was also a competitive Shito-Ryu karateka, a practitioner of one of the four major styles of Japanese karate, from 2008 to 2019, and competed nationally and internationally from 2015 to 2019.
Outside of work, she enjoys reading and creative writing, challenging herself with chess puzzles, and spending time with friends. She loves to push herself mentally and physically via martial arts.
Fun fact: “I was adopted from China.”
