PrepNow Tutor - Zyad M.

An engaging tutor, Zyad has a strong background in mechanical engineering and several years of experience as a math and test prep instructor. He holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Wayne State University. Since graduating, Zyad has worked primarily in education, focusing on math instruction and standardized test prep. He currently serves as the head instructor at a tutoring center, where he oversees a team of teachers, manages day-to-day academic operations, and tutors students in math and SAT/ACT prep.
“I started teaching during college, where I began tutoring math and science subjects for other students and quickly found that I enjoyed helping others understand challenging concepts,” Zyad shares, explaining that this experience led Zyad to pursue more formal instructional roles. “One of my proudest moments was mentoring a struggling SAT student who initially lacked confidence in math,” Zyad recalls. “After weeks of consistent effort and support, they not only improved their score significantly but also told me they had started to enjoy the subject for the first time. Seeing that kind of growth and mindset shift is what makes teaching truly rewarding for me.”
Through his career, but particularly in his current role as head instructor, Zyad has tutored students from kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of subjects, with a strong focus on mathematics and standardized test preparation. His math tutoring experience includes algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and general problem-solving skills. He also has extensive SAT and ACT prep, particularly in the math sections. Additionally, Zyad has served as a STEM Program Instructor for the Detroit Recreation Center through Wayne State University during the 2022-2023 academic year, leading group workshops for middle and high school students to introduce them to math and engineering through interactive, hands-on activities.
“My teaching style is supportive, structured, and focused on helping students build both confidence and understanding,” Zyad says. “I aim to adapt to each student’s learning style while encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable making mistakes and are given the tools to grow from them.” Zyad’s tutoring approach emphasizes clear communication, adaptability, and helping students build lasting problem-solving strategies.
In college, Zyad was on the dean's list and was awarded a grant for his research in combustion physics. He was an active member of the American Chemical Society and volunteered at local schools, leading hands-on chemistry demonstrations to spark student interest in science. In high school, Zyad was the head of special effects for the drama club, where he designed practical rigs and stage effects for live performances. Zyad continues to enjoy exploring creative skills that blend artistic expression with real-world engineering applications.
