PrepNow Tutor - Maria M.

A creative and energetic educator, Maria brings patience plus a passion for helping students reach their full potential. She holds a BS in elementary education and a BA in fine arts from Cabrini College, where she graduated cum laude. She has taught as an art teacher for over thirty years and as a tutor in learning centers for over fifteen years.
Inspired by her lifelong strength in math, Maria started tutoring at a learning center in 1993, working with students in every grade from kindergarten to college on reading, math, writing, study skills, and SAT prep. Her math tutoring has focused on algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus.
When asked about her tutoring style, Maria says, “I like to take an organized approach—going from easiest concepts to harder and making sure the student is confident before moving onto the next topic.” Maria believes that building confidence in this way sets them up for success. “I also bring humor into my teaching and get to know the student to build a comfortable and respectful rapport,” she explains. In March 2024, Maria was recognized as employee of the month of her learning center for her exemplary tutoring.
In high school, Maria was part of the National Honor Society and Community Service Corps. In college, she was a DJ at the radio station. She is a semi-professional photographer and has exhibited her work. She loves to go to concerts and dance parties, cook, and visit art museums. When asked for a fun fact, Maria shares, “I have an identical twin sister who is also a Montessori teacher!”
