Amanda's Bio

A tutor who loves to combine artistic, poetic flair with expert technique in everything she does, Amanda holds a BFA in textiles from Rhode Island School of Design. After earning her degree, she spent five years in New York City in roles overseeing all aspects of the design and manufacturing of high-end fashion collections. She then started her own line of exclusive clothing and textile designs, which have been showcased at New York Fashion Week and Philadelphia Fashion Week. Amanda has spent the last several years instructing at the higher-education level, teaching fashion design-related course material, and providing individualized tutoring sessions. She also teaches grades 6-12 fashion design programs on the weekends and during the summers at Moore College of Art & Design, and continues to exhibit her artwork in galleries internationally. “My background in higher education, experience in the fashion and textile design industries, and bubbly and enthusiastic personality amalgamate into an instructor who makes learning enjoyable,” Amanda says.
Amanda was inspired to pursue teaching by her mom, who was a professor of fashion design. “I always understood, even as a child, the fulfillment she got from teaching,” Amanda reflects. “She encouraged me to try it as well after I decided to take a step away from the corporate fashion route. I was soon delighted to find that I had a natural aptitude for teaching.” Amanda is a particularly excellent test prep tutor because of her ability to connect with her students. “I tailor my approach based on their specific needs, learning styles, and sometimes even character traits!” Amanda says. “I have vast experience tutoring students from all walks of life, learning differences, and experience levels, and my patience and adaptability allow me to establish an effective teaching method for each student. Helping them to identify what they are struggling with equally empowers them to overcome it, and sometimes all they need is a helping hand to see their own capabilities with clear eyes. That's where I come in.” Amanda is excited to help her students build academic confidence for years to come.
“My teaching methodology really lies in helping the students identify and verbalize what it is that they're struggling with,” Amanda says. “That way, we can focus together on targeting their problem areas and help them feel empowered in overcoming them. A main point I like to emphasize is confidence-building, and this comes naturally within the process leading to increased success and belief in themselves.” Amanda ensures that she provides a safe space where students can ask questions and make mistakes without consequence. “I think it's important for both the students and the instructor to actually enjoy the process, rather than speed through it,” she adds. “This simple change in mentality goes a long way when it comes to inspiring the continued pursuit of learning. And of course, the shared feeling of joy they get when they succeed is truly priceless, and makes all the work worthwhile in the end.”
As a student, Amanda was in the National Honor Society, cheerleading, yearbook committee, the fitness center, and the Spanish cultural exchange. “As a classically trained painter, I usually have one or more painting projects going simultaneously,” Amanda shares. “Additionally, I always find myself in the studio enhancing my sewing techniques and creating custom garments.”
Fitness and physical exercise is a crucial part of Amanda’s routine as well, and whenever she gets the chance, she enjoys training in gymnastics. Language learning is one of her main hobbies, and she is fluent in Spanish and is just reaching the B1-B2 level in Russian. She also enjoys modeling and creating fashion/beauty-related content for social media. Amanda is writing a book, which she plans to publish soon. “I love to make homemade fresh-squeezed juices containing many immunity-boosting ingredients.”
