PrepNow Tutor - Kyle W.
Kyle’s specialties focus on college-level physics and test prep, including the ACT and AP exams for Literature, Language and Composition, European History, U.S. History, Government, Calculus BC, Physics, and Computer Science.
Kyle earned a BS in computer engineering and a BA in physics from Bethel University, where, as of Spring 2026, he’s working towards a master’s in marriage and family therapy. In addition to tutoring and his studies, he is a researcher and diagnostic software developer for the University of Minnesota’s Electrical Engineering Department; his focus is on addressing Parkinson's Disease.
Formerly an engineer and software developer, Kyle left the startup and development world for a more person-to-person-focused career. “I wanted to work more directly with people and relationships,” he shares.
His first foray into tutoring was in college; for two years, he tutored fellow physics students. “My proudest season as a tutor was keeping my sessions going both with groups and individuals through COVID, as the lockdown hit while I was in college, and keeping some modicum of normality in the midst of absurdity felt like a victory,” he recounts.
Critical thinking, adaptability, and communication are cornerstones of Kyle’s tutoring approach. “Two of my core strengths are individualization and development, meaning that I care about people as individuals and invest uniquely in that relationship according to their context. That translates to tutoring as having compassion for the pupil's difficulties, celebrating their strengths, and patience to find the ways they learn best,” he explains. He encourages dedicated practice so students learn to work through challenges solo, ultimately developing greater confidence and focus.
Kyle graduated summa cum laude from both high school and college. He received the Presidential Scholarship at Bethel, along with various departmental scholarships, and was on the dean's list five times. In high school, he received an award for earning a 36 on the ACT.
As a student, he was in the marching band, wind symphony, theater, pep band, and jazz band. He was also a member of the basketball team as well as Bethel’s “Optics and Lasers” Team.
In his free time, he loves reading, writing, playing board games, “having a good conversation over a bowl of ramen,” following his religion, and enjoying family time. He’s also into CrossFit and hopes someday to rekindle his passion for music in a jazz band.
Fun fact: “I was in a Pirate Choir in high school that would gather every week to sing pirate shanties, put on silly costumes, and perform at whatever events would tolerate us.” His group was the welcoming attraction for a 50th anniversary showing of The Goonies at an Illinois State Show Choir competition.
