PrepNow Tutor - Priscilla N.
A tutor since 2019, Priscilla holds a BA in English from the University of Houston. Since graduating, she has served as an office assistant at a local clinic while remaining active in education and pursuing financial management and digital literacy. “I am passionate about learning across all areas, whether that be formal writing or taking a turn towards the creative route with baking,” Priscilla says. “I believe in learning from every experience, good or bad, since wisdom is the application of learned knowledge.”
Priscilla started tutoring in college to pursue her growing passion for service. Her introduction to professional tutoring was working with the AmeriCorps program offered at her university, through which she was trained to focus on students’ specific needs and increase confidence. Throughout her career, she has worked with students from elementary school to high school in English and math up to algebra 2. Priscilla’s adaptability makes her an excellent test prep tutor. “I’m thrilled to tutor test prep because it alleviates the burden for students to navigate these seemingly ‘daunting’ standardized tests by themselves,” she says. Priscilla views learning as a life skill, so when she’s tutoring students on the SAT/ACT, she recognizes that she’s also giving them the tools to seek higher education at the collegiate level and beyond.
“I’m flexible with my teaching methods, be it repetition, memory games, or focusing on understanding the skill or concept being taught first before proceeding with solving the problem,” Priscilla explains. Priscilla believes effective tutoring begins with understanding each student’s existing knowledge, confidence, and individual learning style. By tailoring sessions to students’ needs and using a range of engaging strategies, she helps students build both skills and confidence in a supportive, equity-centered environment.
As a student, Priscilla was involved in the National English Honor Society, UNICEF, Math Honor Society, debate, and TAFE; she also received a scholarship for academic excellence and was on the dean’s list. Since early high school, she has enjoyed crocheting on and off. She also enjoys baking. "I had an amazing run in 2025 with my sourdough baking era,” she shares. “When I went back and reviewed every sourdough bread or cookie I made, I totaled 40 recipes in a little over four months!” A devout Catholic Christian, Priscilla had a cat during the pandemic named Speckles, because her fur color was white with dots of black on her head and body.
