Sandy's Bio

A tutor since 2017, Sandy holds a BS in computer science from Georgia Institute of Technology. “I have a step-by-step approach to figuring out where student misunderstandings are leading to incorrect solutions, and how to resolve those misunderstandings for better learning,” Sandy says. After graduating from college, Sandy worked as a barista and a social media assistant, and then as a tattoo artist focusing on cute and fun designs. In addition to tutoring test prep, she currently works as a wedding planner assistant.
Sandy started tutoring in high school, working with middle schoolers on English and math. “I enjoy helping students, and it gives me pride to know that someone's success could be attributed to me,” Sandy says. “One of my proudest moments as a tutor was helping a peer in college who was not a computer science major rise from a B to an A in their introductory computer science course.” Throughout her career, Sandy has tutored AP Biology, computer science, middle school to graduate-level writing, and various levels of English and math. She is an excellent test prep tutor because she loves seeing her students succeed and is persistent in making sure students understand a concept before moving on.
“My approach to tutoring is really focused on helping students understand rather than just know,” Sandy says. “Oftentimes, students are repeating a step-by-step process without fully understanding why they are following those steps, which can lead to issues when those steps don't apply to every problem.” Sandy believes students thrive when they are able to understand how the step-by-step process is formed and why it works. “I also believe in guiding students to figure out the understanding themselves.” Moreover, Sandy has experience tutoring students of all different personalities and goals, from unmotivated middle school kids to panicked college students. “I get excited to see a student go from not understanding a concept to having that epiphany, realizing why things work the way they do.”
In high school, Sandy was involved with the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Academic Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and Card Club. In college, she participated in the Coding Club, the Asian American Student Association, the Vietnamese Student Association, and the Design Club. “I love doing all things creative, and I am always on the hunt for the next art project, whether that be crocheting, ceramics, drawing, or designing,” Sandy says. Sandy also loves traveling to new places within the United States and is always looking forward to her next trip. She has two very adorable cats.
