PrepNow Tutor - Omar K.
Omar specializes in high school and college-level chemistry, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and SAT math. He earned a BS in kinesiology from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he graduated magna cum laude. As of Summer 2026, Omar is a master’s student, studying cellular and molecular biomedical science at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. He’s excited to attend medical school and pursue a career in medicine.
Since college, he gained experience in clinical and research settings through medical scribing, orthopedic research, healthcare volunteering, and student leadership. “I have also enjoyed mentoring students by helping them navigate academics, healthcare career paths, and professional development,” he shares.
Omar began teaching through myriad leadership roles, personal training, and mentoring students interested in healthcare and higher education. “I found that I genuinely enjoy helping others build confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve goals they may not have thought were possible,” he reflects. From 2022 to 2024, Omar worked as an SAT tutor, focusing on reading, writing, and mathematics while developing effective test-taking strategies, time management skills, and confidence for standardized exams. From 2023 to 2025, he was a teaching assistant for Anatomy and Biostatistics at the University of Maryland, where he led Socratic discussions to reinforce key concepts and also supported students in lectures and labs.
One of his proudest moments as a mentor involved helping students navigate important academic and career decisions. “Seeing someone gain confidence, reach a milestone, or pursue an opportunity they were unsure about is incredibly rewarding because it shows the lasting impact that guidance and encouragement can have on another person's future,” he shares.
Omar describes his approach as supportive, adaptable, and goal-oriented. He first learns how each student thinks and then tailors his style accordingly. “Throughout my academic journey, I found that the most effective teachers were those who made complex topics approachable, encouraged questions, and built confidence in their students. Because of this, I strive to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking for help, and challenging themselves,” he notes. While he hopes to improve students’ test scores and grades, he ultimately wants to help students become motivated, independent, lifelong learners. “Rather than simply giving answers, I aim to help students understand the reasoning behind concepts so they can apply that knowledge independently in the future,” he adds.
Omar’s academic diligence earned him admission into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society (outstanding academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences); he also earned the Kinesiology Achievement Award while attending the Community College of Baltimore County. At the University of Maryland, he was on the dean’s list and was nominated for the University of Maryland Model Citizen Award and the Mildred & Richard Loving Award for leadership, service, and contributions to the community. He also played collegiate club soccer for 2 years.
More recently, one of his most notable achievements has been contributing to orthopedic research at NYU Langone, including a systematic review and meta-analysis that was submitted for presentation at a national orthopedic conference.
Outside of academics, he enjoys fitness via strength training, soccer, swimming, and volleyball; traveling with an eye for exploring new cultures; and staying involved in research and healthcare, particularly staying up to date on medical news and participating in research projects. “I’m driven by personal growth and enjoy challenging myself both professionally and personally,” he adds.
Fun fact: Omar speaks English, Arabic, and French!
