Sharani's Bio

From 2016 to 2020, Sharani tutored 8th-grade math as well as 10th-grade chemistry, algebra, and trigonometry. For three years of her undergraduate studies, she also tutored underclassmen in physics, chemistry, and coding. “I've always enjoyed helping others learn because I understand how frustrating it can feel when a concept just isn't clicking, and how rewarding it is when it finally does,” she says.

Sharani earned a bachelor’s in biomedical engineering from Boston University, where, as of 2026, she’s pursuing a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. In addition to tutoring, she currently tutors first-year dental students in physiology and biochemistry, conducts orthodontic research, and undergoes clinical training.

She’s proud of having tutored since she was in 8th grade. "What started as helping classmates with math has grown into something I genuinely love, and I've continued tutoring students of different ages and subjects throughout high school, college, and now dental school,” she notes.

Sharani loves seeing students’ confidence climb. “One of the most rewarding experiences is watching a student go from saying, ‘I can't do this’ to realizing they are capable of solving the problem on their own,” she reflects. “Helping students believe in themselves and feel excited about learning is what makes tutoring so meaningful to me.”

“Everyone learns differently, so I don't believe in teaching from a script,” she says. Whether she’s talking through a problem, providing visuals, or posing prompting questions, she’s adept at assessing and pivoting to fit students’ needs. “I also think it's important that students feel comfortable making mistakes. Some of the best learning happens when something doesn't go right the first time,” she adds. Her goal is to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, thinking out loud, and building confidence at their own pace. “Whether I'm working with a student who's aiming for an A or someone who's simply trying to feel less overwhelmed, I hope they leave each session feeling more confident than when they walked in.”

As an undergraduate student at BU, Sharani was actively involved in community service projects that promoted oral health and supported underserved communities and served as a teaching assistant, a role in which she honed her tutoring approach. She was also co-president of Engineers Without Borders; her team raised nearly $7,000 to help fund a rainwater catchment system in Tinet, Kenya. “Being part of a project that helped improve access to clean water was an incredibly meaningful experience and reinforced my desire to contribute to communities beyond my own,” she shares.

More recently, she has volunteered with Pristine Pearls Project, helping support oral health initiatives by organizing efforts to provide dental hygiene resources and promote oral health education for underserved communities. “These experiences have shown me the importance of combining education, service, and mentorship to make a lasting impact."

In addition to graduating with honors, Sharani was on the dean’s list all four years at BU. In high school, she was on a local swim team and ran track. Throughout both high school and college, she also studied Indian classical music, known as Carnatic music.

In her free time, she loves exploring new places with her family, trying new restaurants and coffee shops, listening to music, volunteering, and enjoying the outdoors.
