Mira's Bio

A tutor who values honesty and hard work, Mira always sees the best in others. “My goals are to be able to help people whenever I can and to try to make the world a slightly better place,” she says. Mira holds a BA in math and physics from Saint Olaf College. After college, Mira began her career in science, working first as a lab technician and later as a biochemist. She has since expanded her professional focus to include writing and editing, collaborating with a community of independent authors.
Mira started tutoring in June 2020 while waiting for the lockdown to end so she could kick off her career. “Little did I know, however, that this small tutoring role would bring me such motivation and fulfillment,” she says. Mira brings extensive experience designing and implementing structured academic programs. She has collaborated with instructional teams to develop full engineering and physics courses from the ground up and has led students through both pre-designed and newly created curricula. Her proudest moments as an instructor have come after hours of thoughtful planning, when she was able to see her course development translate directly into student growth. Mira has worked with students from third through twelfth grade in a variety of subjects, including math through calculus, physics, zoology, coding, architecture, engineering, and game design.
When asked about her tutoring style, Mira explains, “I encourage students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words because teaching a concept back is one of the most effective ways to truly understand it.” A supportive tutor, Mira makes an effort to truly listen and follow each student's educational journey. “I never want to interrupt or dismiss them.” She is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
In high school, Mira was involved in volunteering, theater, and competitive math; she also practiced knitting. In college, she continued in competitive math, was in a bicycle club, and practiced swing dancing. She is a published academic author in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

Outside of work, Mira enjoys reading, writing, and editing both her own and her friends’ work. “I also love trying out other forms of art, including drawing, dancing, and even music,” Mira says. “I use art as a way of self-expression and a meditative way to explore my feelings and emotions.” Mira is named after both of her cats. “My first name is a slight variation of my cat Mika, and my middle name is the same middle name as my other cat Daphne,” Mira shares.
