Beulah's Bio

Beulah is a dedicated math and science scholar who has been tutoring since 2015. She holds BS degrees in math and biology and a BA in Spanish from Southwestern University and is pursuing a PhD in computational biology from Cornell University. As a student, Beulah earned multiple honors: she was awarded a Gilman Scholarship, given to scholars to study abroad; she received a Provost Dissertation Fellowship to fund her thesis research; and she earned a genomic fellowship to support her PhD studies.
As she pursued her own academics, Beulah began as a peer tutor of algebra, geometry, and precalculus. Next, in 2017, she worked as a math tutor for a major educational company. Thereafter, she began tutoring science courses, as well; since 2020, she has tutored quantitative genomics, genetics, cellular biology, and developmental biology. The breadth of her experience makes her a valuable resource to StudyPoint’s students.
Beulah's tutoring style is built upon effective communication. Indeed, she greatly values nonverbal communication, arguing that she can understand a lot by studying the faces and reactions of her students before asking them to verbalize their thoughts. In addition, Beulah knows that, ultimately, she must find the correct path to help each student. She says, “I have a particular philosophy passed down to me from my PhD advisor: if a student is not learning or understanding, then there is something wrong with the teacher, not the learner or their ability.” With this mantra, Beulah is always seeking ways to adapt her style to the needs of her students.
In her free time, Beulah likes to relax by playing the violin and cuddling with her puppy and kitten. She also likes to strengthen bonds by sending thoughtful cards to friends and family and by sharing meals with them; she believes that food is a crucial way to commune with others. This said, there are times when Beulah needs a little competition with others, too, so she plays pickleball and enjoys battling on her skates in roller derby.
